Double Play

July 3rd, 2011

There’s no denying that Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson are the best two sport athletes, EVER!  The things these two were able to do in football and baseball was nothing short of spectacular.  These two not only had the ability to compete in both the NFL and MLB, but also excelled.  One might say they were both better football than baseball players.  But, when you consider that hitting a baseball is the toughest skill in sports and these two spent their off-season on the football field, you may find new respect for what they were able to accomplish.  They were also very successful pitchmen for Nike. Check out visuals of their commercials and highlights below.

Beauty of Humility

July 3rd, 2011

Humility can be defined as the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one’s own importance.  With that being said, humility has always been a beautiful characteristic one could possess.  But, the popularity and use of social media is exposing it to be a characteristic few have acquired.  Sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are great ways to stay connected to friends, family and coworkers.  Unfortunately, they also seem to be place’s to degrade others and spew negativity.

Since elementary school, I never understood how and why people feel the need to talk about and degrade others.  It seemed to be an insecure trait that one would grow out of.  Needless to say, grown folks seem to engage in the name calling and arrogant judging of others, as much as, if not more than KIDS.  Arrogance and overconfidence will always be ones downfall.  Our opinion’s are very valuable, but never at the expense of others.  “True humility is intelligent self respect which keeps us from thinking too highly or too meanly of ourselves. It makes us modest by reminding us how far we have come short of what we can be.” -Ralph W. Sockman

“The truest characters of ignorance are vanity, pride and arrogance.”  -Samuel Butler

Frank Morrison

June 28th, 2011

Growing up in New Jersey, Frank Morrison was a precocious and inquisitive youngster whose curiosity about everything around him seemed limitless.  Morrison’s work is inspired, not only by his rich and varied life experiences, but also his love for GOD.  Each of his paintings is notated with “TTG”, Thanks To God, as a reminder of his blessings, gift, and talent.  Morrison’s characters exaggerated body parts and flowing motion is his signature style and gives us a glimpse of his talent and creativity.  Check out a few of his paintings below.

No Kings Without Queens (Extended Version)

June 12th, 2011

By my side, forever you are seated

Encouraging words of support

You are what I’ve always needed.

A Ruler of Nations, is how I am viewed and seen

Impossible would be this Kingdom

If I were King, without you as my Queen.

Your walk, that smile, the flip of your hair

That waist, the legs, those thighs

Oh my… Your eyes, I can’t help but stare.

Now stating the physical was easy, cause from a glance it’s plain to see

But it’s clearly the mental that has me here

Your thought process, well… it kinda reminds me of me.

Nah… I just truly admire how the way for others, you care

Taking an active role in this world

Understanding it’s more than manicures, pedicures, and hair.

Priorities you’ve got, cause “The Jones’s”  you get that we are not them

Eliminating  I, MY, ME, MINES and YOURS

This is OUR Kingdom.

Peace & Love!!!

Sunday Inspiration: Stay in the Fight

June 12th, 2011

Sort of a re-post, but I think the ending to the movie Ali is one of the most inspirational ever.  Life’s challenges are endless.  Even when you feel like you’ve been backed into the ropes, never give up and stay in the fight!

“Can’t let you get that second wind which you don’t even know’s out there for you.  You want the title, wanna wear the heavyweight crown?  Nose broke, jaw smashed, face busted in.  You ready for that?  Is that You?  Cause you’re facing a man that will die before he lets you win!!!”

-Will Smith, Ali

The LeBrons

April 6th, 2011

Branding.  It is one of the most important concepts we all should grasp and understand.  We must seek to create and protect our own brand.  Not as it relates to clothing, shoes, or any product for that matter.   But, how we are viewed by others in the world.  Before Lebron James ever entered the NBA, he was already creating and promoting his brand.  And although his exit from the Cleveland Cavaliers may not have been his most popular decision, it only caused a slight dip in his popularity.  Trust me, those boos from fans have no depth.  But I digress.

Lebron is continuing to promote his brand with a Web-based animated series entitled, The LeBrons.  The series will be based on the characters James played in several Nike commercials a few years back.  The series is slated for 10, 5 minute episodes.  Check out the first episode in the series below.  Peace & Love!!!

Niceguys Finish Last?

April 3rd, 2011

Houston, we have a problem.  You have probably one of the nicest, no pun intended, hip hop groups in your backyard and most of you don’t even know it.  I did a blog entry on these cats back in June and it seems nothing has changed as far as their recognition.  Their debut album, The Show, was for lack of a better word, nice.   The Niceguys consist of an MC, DJ and producers.  Yves (MC), Candlestick (DJ), Free and Chrisolph (producers) all met while attending the University of Houston.  While Yves is from Queens, New York, the other members are all from different parts of Texas.  Check out there latest installment of their video series.  It’s a short montage of there SXSW experience.  Peace & Love!!!

Good Luck Gentleman

March 26th, 2011

I’ve been having this book for a while now and I thought of it as I was having a conversation earlier.  As you can assume, it was about being a gentleman.  Without getting in to details, it was about how I’ve always been viewed as a gentleman.  Now I always like to think of and try to carry myself as a gentleman, but I know there are times when I may not have acted as such.  Consequently, as a man I feel it is of the utmost importance to act and behave in a certain manner.  The book didn’t touch on any groundbreaking topics, I just purchased it as a reminder of what it is to be a gentleman.  Some may think of it as pure conduct when dealing with the fairer sex, but it also encompasses everything from how to conduct yourself in social settings, to eating and drinking, to style, dressing and grooming.  Plus, so much more.

Now from what I gather, being a gentleman is becoming extinct.  I always say I can’t speak for what others do, but I find it hard to believe females are having a hard time finding a gentleman.  I tend to believe it’s more of the kind of male they focus on.  They know guys who are gentlemen, but of course he’s not their type.  I remember one of my boys telling me this female said she couldn’t date him cause he was “too” nice.  It’s not that he was too nice, it was the fact that he carried himself in a certain manner and it was foreign to how she was use to being treated.  So with that being said, “Gentleman, good luck gentleman.”  Peace & Love!!!
