I’ve been having these for a few weeks now and I figured I’d post them. Just a few shots from the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. It’s always a cool place to visit. Although I didn’t snap any pics, I always find the Egyptian exhibits so amazing. So much detail for a time where nothing was automated and everything was handmade and crafted beautifully. I guess if you put love into your work, you can and will never really be disappointed in the outcome. Peace & Love!!!

If you’ve been following my blog, you know by now my affinity for contemporary home design. Most think of art on the walls, but sometimes the wall is the art. Check out the visuals of this wonderfully constructed home in Kilchberg near Zurich, Switzerland. Designed by Frei + Saarinen the ground floor consists of an interlaced spatial concept connecting the East and West gardens through three slightly meandering offset tiers. Check out more of this beautiful architectural design below. Peace & Love!!!

Known for producing collections like his sixty panel Migration Series, Jacob Lawrence is one of the most widely acclaimed artist of the 20th century. Influenced by the shapes and colors of Harlem, Lawrence brought the African-American experience to life in his work. His Migration Series chronicled the movement of African Americans form the rural South to the industrious North. Mr. Lawrence dropped out of school at the age of sixteen, but later attended classes at the Harlem Art Workshop. He would later receive a scholarship and attend the American Artists School. Throughout his lengthy artistic career, Lawrence concentrated on depicting the history and struggles of African Americans. Lawrence’s work often portrayed important periods in African-American history. Check out a few samples of his work below. Peace & Love!!!

Ever since I started Hearts Of Kings, I’ve really become interested in the “world”of art and design. And it’s not that art never interest me, it’s just before I was just interested from a visual perspective. I would see something, like it or I thought it was cool, but never really looked that deep into it. As I really started to wanting to tell my stories, of how I view the (my) world, I really started admiring the works of others. Pop art is a movement I became highly interested in. Due to it’s appreciation of popular culture, pop art can be characterized as using recognizable imagery and bright colors. No one seemed to do this better than Roy Lichtenstein. Known as one of the most prominent pop artist, Lichtenstein’s work defined pop art through parody, usually with the use of old fashioned comic strips.
Below is a video that gives us all a sneak peek into the life of Lichtenstein. With interviews of those who knew him, including his wife Dorthy, this short film is sure to be enjoyed by those whom he influenced and those creatives learning about him for the first time. Take a look. As always, you’re sure to enjoy. Peace & Love!!!

When I first heard Common’s “I Used to Love H.E.R.“, I instantly fell in love. No pun intended. It was one of those smooth, lyrical songs that spoke to something deeper than on the surface. That was ’94. Fast forward some 20 years and Common has dropped the follow up to the hit entitled, “The Next Chapter (Still Love H.E.R.)”. While the track only features one verse, it is very welcomed with hopes of more to come from the Chicago born MC. Check it out below. Peace & Love!!!

A few days ago I posted an Apple ad that contained the tagline, “Think different.”. At some point in our lives, we’ve been asked the question by our parents or guardians, “If your friend jumped off the bridge, would you follow?”. It was then that we were challenged to think different, to think for ourselves and be different then the crowd. As a young person, trying to think and be different can be tough. Peer pressure can cause us to do things that are out of character. Following the crowd and living our lives like and for others, can also cause us to miss out on golden opportunities we have to be our great selves. Below is an Apple ad, created in 1997, that shows those great humans who were game changers. They bucked the system and did not live by the status quo. With that being said, challenge yourself to think different. Be crazy enough to think you can change the world. You never know what type of difference you will make. Peace & Love!!!

Those familiar with NFL football know Herm Edwards as the former coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets and currently as an analyst on ESPN. Before the 2011 NFL season, Herm spoke to incoming rookies about the “business” of football. Although Edwards was speaking to young men about the business of football, this motivational speech could be applied to any aspect of life and business. Just hit play. You are sure to enjoy. Peace & Love!!!

Anyone who has aspired to do more and be more and challenged themselves to be great has probably run into stumbling blocks. Staying focused on achieving our dreams and goals most times comes with a hefty price. It takes work, hard work. Most times more work than we could ever imagine. It also forces us to step outside of our comfort zone to do things we never thought we would or could do. I just ask that you guys stay tuned. There are a lot of new offerings coming soon and I am VERY excited about building the brand to what it deserves to be. I just ask that you support and spread the word. This is more about you than you may realize. Those who know, understand! Peace & Love!!!
